The very beginning of Islam was in the ancient city of Mecca (In 627 A.D.). The prophet Muhammad in his later life grew tired of seeing people sinning and worshiping the wrong gods. Because of this Muhammad left his life in Mecca and became a hermit. Living in a cave outside of Mecca he fasted and prayed. It is believed that Muhammad saw the Arch Angel Gabriel. Given to him by the Arch Angel Gabriel was the Qur'an. The holy book of Islam. From then on Muhammad preached Islam to many people.
Islam is now practiced all over the world by millions of people. Even though there are millions of Muslims all must follow the same set of rules.
